Bucket List Destinations

The destination is The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi, Kenya. As you all know by now, I absolutely adore elephants. So, it isn’t hard to guess that one of my “bucket list” destinations would have something to do with elephants…

“Born from one family’s passion for Kenya and its wilderness, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is today the most successful orphan-elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world and one of the pioneering conservation organisations for wildlife and habitat protection in East Africa.”

I have been following them for a while on Facebook and I am blown away by the work they do all over Kenya. They have successfully saved and rehabilitated many elephants and they show such a passion for everything that they do.

I feel that their mission statement pretty much covers what can be said about them:

“The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust embraces all measures that complement the conservation, preservation and protection of wildlife. These include anti-poaching, safe guarding the natural environment, enhancing community awareness, addressing animal welfare issues, providing veterinary assistance to animals in need, rescuing and hand rearing elephant and rhino orphans, along with other species that can ultimately enjoy a quality of life in wild terms when grown.”

I have this place saved on my Bucket List and will definitely be making my way there in the future. I cannot think of a better trip to go on then to be able to spend time watching and taking in the amazing work that this trust performs. Hopefully some more countries in Africa will stand up and start taking in the severity of the Ivory Poaching in the world.

No one on this earth needs an elephant tusk, except an elephant.
