Stories Of The Kruger | The Outpost Private Lodge North Kruger

The Outpost Lodge is in the far north of the Kruger National Park, quite close to the Pafuri entrance gate. It is located in the Makuleke Concession in the Kruger National Park.

The view from the Outpost Lodge cannot be explained, nor can a photo show you the absolute beauty and amazement you feel when you look down into the Luvuvhu river valley from hundreds of feet above. It feels like you can see the whole of the Kruger Park.

General Information On The Outpost Lodge

The Makuleke concession had no lodges for a while, due to it being on private land. The people of the Makuleke tribe helped build The Outpost in 2003, and it involves the Makuleke community. The architecture is superb and with 12 units (With number 12 being the room with the most amazing view) sleeping 24 people, which makes this a very quiet private Kruger camp. This means you can enjoy all the sounds nature has to offer without being subjected to hundreds of people interrupting it.

These contemporary Luxury Spaces have been cleverly designed, making full use of the space, concrete and steel with state-of the art retractable screens offering 180-degrees of uninterrupted views of the Luvuvhu River Valley.

The open feel of the room extends into a comfortable lounge and an award-winning bathroom (which can be screened off for privacy) with a stone bath and open shower boasting views extending as far as Mozambique.

The outdoor terrace with daybed offers full views of the surrounding bushveld, and is the perfect spot to while away the time soaking in this natural wonder.

The first time I ever laid eyes upon a Sharpe’s Grysbok was on the private dirt road leading up to The Outpost Lodge.

Birding At The Outpost Lodge

With well over 450 birds in this section of the Kruger, you will not be disappointed.

Because The Outpost Lodge is situated on a high rocky outcrop it means you can see a variety of bird species associated with higher altitudes, rocks and cliff faces. You also will still be able to see bushveld birds as well as water birds. The birding opportunities here are endless. There are lots of bushveld associated birds that can be seen in the trees and shrubs around the camp. Buntings and Crombecs are regular visitors.
